February 2015 Bankruptcy & Consumer Proposal Statistics

On April 30, 2015, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy released its most current statistics on bankruptcy and proposal filings for Canadian consumer debtors.

Canada - there were 64,198 personal bankruptcies and 53,930 proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015 for average total filings of approximately 9,844 per month.  Bankruptcies were down 6.2% and proposal filings were up 7.8% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.

New Brunswick - there were 2,945 personal bankruptcies and 1,291 proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015 for average total filings of approximately 353 per month.  Bankruptcies were up 3.7% and proposal filings were up 12% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.

Nova Scotia - there were 3,746 personal bankruptcies and 1,508 proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015 for average total filings of approximately 438 per month.  Bankruptcies were up 12.4% and proposal filings were up 6.6% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.

Prince Edward Island - there were 499 personal bankruptcies and 213 proposals filed in the 12-months ended February 28, 2015 for average total filings of approximately 59 per month.  Bankruptcies were up 11.9% and proposal filings were up 10.9% as compared to the 12-months ended February 28, 2014.
